Tips For Getting Major Repairs Or Body Work Done On Your Vehicle For The First Time

About a year ago, I realized that my car was having a lot of problems. It seemed like no matter what I did I couldn't make things right, and I realized that it was probably because I knew very little about car repairs. I started talking with other car enthusiasts about what they knew, and they were able to help me to take care of little issues as they came along. Within a few short months, my car was operating smoothly, and it was great to see how much of a difference my actions made. Check out this blog to learn more about cars.

Tips For Getting Major Repairs Or Body Work Done On Your Vehicle For The First Time

Perhaps you've taken your car to an auto repair shop for an oil change before, but now you have major work that needs to be done following an auto accident or some other serious incident. If you will need to take your vehicle to an auto body shop in the near future, here are some tips.

Find a Shop Certified or Approved By Your Car Manufacturer If You Want Official Parts to Retain Your Warranty

Is your car still under the manufacturer's warranty? You will want to make sure any new parts put in the car are official parts from the manufacturer. Choosing aftermarket or used at this point in the car's lifespan is not advised, as it may void what's left of your warranty. Look for a shop that is certified for your specific brand of vehicle. This will ensure they have well-trained mechanics and body shop experts who know the ins and outs of your specific type of car.

Get Your Estimate in Writing and Ask About the Insurance Process If Necessary

It always helps to ask around and get more than one estimate or quote when trying to find someone to do bodywork for you. But be sure you get an estimate in writing, especially if you are not immediately dropping the car off there and will come back later. If you will be submitting to insurance, ask the body shop if they work with your insurance provider and what the process is from your end. If you are not going to a shop suggested by your provider, keep in mind that you may have to pay first and then get reimbursed later.

If You Are Not Covered By Insurance, Ask If They'll Cut You a Break By Offering a Different Rate

Maybe the accident was your fault and your insurance provider is not fully covering you for some reason. Maybe you didn't have enough coverage or the right type of coverage for the specific damage that was done to the vehicle. If you know you will have out-of-pocket expenses, tell the body shop that upfront. You may get a better quote for your budget if the auto shop knows you are personally on the hook for the work and you are shopping around to get the lowest possible price.
